I made a, "Cherry Blossom Cake," from this Martha Stewart Living Cookbook for our weekend celebrating. I love this big, FAT cookbook! I did choose a different frosting recipe than what was suggested in the cookbook. For decorating cakes I use an old "Wilton" frosting recipe that has worked well for me. When our daughters were growing up I would always try and make them pretty cakes with a theme that they were interested in at that age. It was a lot of work, and stressful at times, because I was always frosting them at the last minute (sometimes right before company would arrive). The last few times I have frosted with decorative tips have been really enjoyable to me. I don't think I am trying to make them so perfect anymore. I am just thinking the labor of love will be appreciated, it makes the process more freeing to me.
I brought in bunches of daisies from the yard to add a bit of cheer for the table.
Early birthday celebrating with family. This is the first time I made this cake. It was very dense, but good, it reminded us a little bit of a scone. It was delicious with a cup of tea. Yes, I did cheat (a little) on my diet this weekend. Many of our weekends are so full of good food it is very hard not to! It's okay, life isn't engraved in stone, I am not going to beat myself up about it. The weekdays are so much easier to follow a diet plan. I am making positive changes for the majority of my (our) food choices. I don't feel too guilty about it.
Are your weekends the same way? Full of fun celebrating? I hope so!
I hope you are having a beautiful Monday!!! Thanks for visiting today...:)

ReplyDeleteOooo girl you are making me soooo hungry. I have my pedometer on to day to keep me under control :) But if I didn't ... I might be making one of those too :)
Sweet Gloria, that cake looks sooooooo good. I am trying to lose weight and have not allowed myself any sweet desserts in almost a month. I'm not saying I will never eat cake again. But for right now, I need to be strict on myself. If I give in this early, I'll just cave in, I know. But my, it sure does look yummy. And all your flowers and dishes and decorations look so warm and homey. I think a heart must feel very welcome and loved when it enters your door. (P.S. Have you joined Pinterest? I think you would love it!)
